About Thinking Mode
Thinking Mode is an AI-powered conversational assessment platform designed for the age of AI-generated student work. Rather than trying to catch AI misuse, it verifies genuine student understanding through guided dialogue. Its flagship feature, Defence Mode, has students upload their assignment then enter a full-screen, secure in-class environment where AI asks adaptive questions based on exactly what each student submitted — probing the ideas, concepts, and vocabulary in their own work. Teachers receive clear transcript evidence and a summary of understanding for every student. No student accounts are required and nothing needs to be installed; teachers share a class code and students join via any common browser. Beyond Defence Mode, the platform supports three modes across the full assessment cycle: Defence Mode (verify understanding of submitted work), Retrieval Mode (help students retrieve knowledge from long-term memory and connect understanding across a topic), and Probe Mode (evaluate depth of knowledge through increasingly complex questioning). Privacy-by-design: no student data is sold, no data is used to train AI models, data is stored in Australia, and the platform is aligned to Australian, GDPR, and US student privacy requirements including FERPA and COPPA. Currently integrates with major LMS platforms. Used by Scotch College Adelaide, Emmaus Christian College, Christian Brothers College, and other leading schools.
