About Magpie
Magpie is a research-grounded K-2 literacy tool already deployed in classrooms nationwide, giving young readers year-round support in building the foundational skills essential for lifelong reading. In just 60 minutes per week, students engage with a blend of research-based instructional videos and interactive games targeting phonemic awareness, decoding and encoding, word chaining, letter formation, print concepts, high-frequency words, and meaningful reading practice. Magpie is designed around a critical insight from literacy research: readers who do not exceed the decoding threshold cannot access reading comprehension and will not show growth in reading proficiency — so building that foundation early is everything. Only one-third of students in America read at grade level; Magpie exists to change that. A 3-8 literacy tool is currently in development, co-designed with educators and students in communities across the country.
