WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) is the international standard for digital accessibility. For schools, accessibility compliance is both a legal requirement under Section 508 and the ADA, and an ethical imperative ensuring all students — including those with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive disabilities — can access learning tools equally. WCAG 2.1 AA is the most commonly required compliance level in US education procurement. The 18 products on this page have indicated WCAG 2.1 compliance.

Schools receiving federal funding must ensure digital tools are accessible under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. Many states have additional accessibility requirements. Non-accessible software can create legal risk and excludes students with disabilities from full participation.
Level A covers the most basic requirements. Level AA — required for most US public education procurement — addresses the most common accessibility barriers. Level AAA is the highest standard but is not universally required.
Ask the vendor for a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) or Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR). Screen reader testing with users who have disabilities provides the most reliable real-world verification.
